Program Director

Description:

This is an upper management position that also entails hands-on project implementation. Duties associated with this position stem from direct oversight of all current programs administered by KIKA.

Responsibilities:

Administrative Duties:

Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board, staff and contractors to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.

  • Responsible for implementation of all programs currently administered by KIKA.
  • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that KIKA can successfully fulfill its Mission into the future.
  • Responsible for the enhancement of KIKA’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.

Organization Operations. Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.

  • Responsible effective administration of KIKA’s operations.
  • Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff and contractors.
  • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.

Financial Performance and Viability: Develops and maintains organizational and program specific budgets.

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of KIKA, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and bi-annual financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
  • Responsible for fundraising and developing other resources necessary to support KIKA’s mission.
  • Works with Board Treasurer and business consultants to develop and maintain budgets

Board Governance: Works with board and support staff/contractors in order to fulfill the organization mission.

  •  Responsible for leading _________ in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

Program Implementation:

  • Responsible for day-to-day management and implementation of all KIKA adminstered programs.
  • Reports to worksite on a daily basis to carry out program related duties related to aina restoration, education, community outreach, and farming activities.
  • Works collaboratively with and provides direction to staff on each phase of program implementation.
  • Current programs include aina restoration, volun-tourism, and youth mentorship and education.

Actual Job Responsibilities:

  1.  Planning and operation of annual budget.
  2.  Works with consultants to establishing employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the nonprofit.
  3. Serving as KIKA’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public.
  4. Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations throughout Hawaii and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance KIKA’s mission.
  5. Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors and consultants to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the KIKA throughout Hawaii and abroad.
  6. Develop and execute fundraising efforts
  7. Responsible for data collection and reporting on all KIKA programs.
  8.  Supervise, collaborate with organization staff.
  9.  Strategic planning and implementation.
  10.  Oversee organization Board and committee meetings.
  11.  Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.
  12.  Seek, review and approve contracts for services.
  13.  Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Pay and Hours:

  • Salary position
  • 40 hours/week
  • Schedule will fluctuate depending on program needs
  • Reports directly to Board of Directors

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree in Hawaiian Education
  2. Strong foundation in Hawaiian cultural values and tradition, especially in areas of Malama Aina and Ike Kupuna
  3. 10 years experience in Hawaiian education as a teacher or administrator
  4. 10 years experience in traditional Hawaiian agricultural techniques
  5. 10 years experience working with community based projects
  6. 10 years experience working with youth focused programs
  7. Fluency in Hawaiian language
  8. Strong connection to West Kauai community
  9. Must be able to report to worksite in Makaweli, Kauai on a daily basis
